De acordo com o Ministério do Desenvolvimento Regional (MDR), as águas do Rio São Francisco devem chegar ao Ceará ainda este mês. O governo federal concluiu as obras que garantem a funcionalidade ao Eixo Norte do “Velho Chico”. A estimativa é de que 4,5 milhões de cearenses sejam beneficiados.
O Reservatório batizado de Milagres, em Pernambuco, está em enchimento e, após, cheio, as águas do rio vão atravessar a divisa entre Pernambuco e o Ceará, enchendo o Reservatório Jati. As obras do Eixo Norte tem o objetivo de levar água, também, para o Rio Grande do Norte e a Paraíba.
O governo federal já desembolsou R$ 271,5 milhões para o maior empreendimento hídrico do país, este ano. Os recursos são usados para ações ambientais, recuperação e modernização dos reservatórios estratégicos que receberão as águas do São Francisco.
A previsão do governo federal é de que as obras de transposição do Rio São Francisco acabam em junho de 2021 e atinjam a 30 milhões de pessoas.
