A LASA (Latin American Studies Association), maior comunidade acadêmica dos
Estados Unidos dedicada a estudos sobre a América Latina, confirmou o golpe parlamentar ocorrido no Brasil contra a presidente eleita Dilma Rousseff.
A entidade, composta por pesquisadores do mundo todo – 60% dos filiados moram fora dos Estados Unidos – divulgou uma nota em que classifica o processo de impeachment contra Dilma de “arbitrário” e “antidemocrático”.
O posicionamento da entidade foi decidido em uma votação interna, na qual 87% dos membros reconheceram que o afastamento de Dilma é um “atentado contra a democracia brasileira”.
Em julho deste ano, uma comissão de pesquisadores de vários países montada pela LASA esteve no Brasil para analisar o processo de impeachment. O grupo chegou a ter um encontro com o ex-presidente Lula.
A LASA ganhou destaque no País em maio, quando incluiu uma palestra do ex-presidente Fernando Henrique Cardoso na programação de um evento que organizou em Nova York, em comemoração aos 50 anos da entidade, no qual debateria a democracia.
Um abaixo-assinado de acadêmicos filiados à entidade pediu para que fosse retirada a palestra de FHC. A LASA retirou o nome “democracia” do título do debate, mas o ex-presidente tucano, que também foi alvo de protestos na cidade dos Estados Unidos, informou que não participaria do encontro. A forma arbitrária na qual o processo de impeachment está sendo realizado contra a presidenta Dilma Rousseff constitui um atentado contra a democracia brasileira;
Considerando que a democracia é uma condição indispensável para alcançar um futuro digno e socialmente justo para todos; e considerando que a comunidade internacional esteve presente e solidária com as lutas em defesa da democracia;
A Lasa denuncia o atual processo de impeachment no Brasil como antidemocrático e encoraja seus membros a chamar a atenção do mundo para os precedentes perigosos que o impeachment estabelece para toda a região.
