Geraldo de Souza Coelho, pernambucano de Petrolina, nasceu em 05/04/1926, filho de Clementino de Souza Coelho e Josepha de Souza Coelho. Formou-se em Engenharia Civil pela Universidade Mackenzie de São Paulo em 1948. Em 1949 fez parte da turma pioneira na construção da Hidroelétrica de Paulo Afonso.
É casado com D. Lourdes tem como filhos: Tereza, Rodrigo, Vitória, Ricardo (in memorian), Flávio, Jorge e Carlota.
Entrou na vida pública como Vereador por 2 mandatos, Prefeito de Petrolina 1973/1977 tendo como destaque as seguintes obras dentre tantas outras: Criação da 1ª Secretaria de Educação, Faculdade de Administração(atual FACAPE), construção da Avenida da Integração, Viaduto dos Barranqueiros, Museu do Sertão e do Novo Aeroporto.
Político por vocação, tornou-se desde cedo defensor das bandeiras da educação, saúde, eletrificação, abastecimento de água, irrigação, fazendo dos seus 6 mandatos como Deputado Estadual por Pernambuco, uma luta diária em favor dos mais necessitados das periferias e zona rural. Por sua postura ética presidiu a importante Comissão de Finanças, Orçamento e Tributação durante seus mandatos.
É membro atuante do Rotary foi Governador do Distrito 4550 do Rotary Club Internacional, onde até hoje se faz presente em todas as reuniões e encontros.

Para os petrolinenses, fica somente a crença que homens como Dr.Geraldo Coleho, sempre nasçam com a mesma determinação. .
