Uma em cada duas cidades do Nordeste está em estado de emergência por causa da seca, que chega ao seu quinto ano consecutivo, assolando a Região.
Dados do Monitor de Secas do Nordeste do Brasil, elaborado pela Funceme (Fundação Cearense de Meteorologia e Recursos Hídricos), apontam que a estiagem em setembro alcançou o estágio mais agudo nos últimos 12 meses.
O meteorologista da Funceme, Raul Fritz , afirmou que o único registro de cinco anos seguidos de seca nos últimos 100 anos foi entre 1979 e 1983. Mesmo assim, a atual situação já supera aqueles anos, se tornando a pior seca dos tempos , pois o volume de chuvas é inferior .
O cenário de seca atinge todo o território nordestino , até mesmo no litoral, tem trazido danos irreparáveis, destruindo a agricultura , assolando com morte os rebanhos e secando os reservatórios de água potável.
A barragem de Sobradinho que recebe a água do Rio São Francisco, considerado o maior reservatório do Nordeste, está com 7,1% de sua capacidade e pode chegar ao volume morto até o final de 2016.
