O governo federal entregou nesta semana quase 89 quilômetros de pista recuperada da BR-349, na Bahia. A obra foi executada pelo Departamento Nacional de Infraestrutura de Transportes (Dnit). O trecho restaurado abrange as proximidades de quatro municípios: Bom Jesus da Lapa, Serra do Ramalho, Santa Maria da Vitória e São Félix do Coribe. Foram investidos R$ 8 milhões na restauração.
De acordo com o Ministério dos Transportes, a BR-349 possui extensão total de cerca de 1.228 quilômetros e corta os estados de Goiás, Bahia e Sergipe. Na Bahia, a rodovia desempenha importante papel no escoamento da produção da região agrícola irrigada pelo Rio São Francisco, nas proximidades de Serra do Ramalho.
A rodovia também tem grande relevância religiosa, sendo o caminho feito por romeiros, principalmente da região Centro-Oeste, com destino à cidade de Bom Jesus da Lapa.
